My LFS said he can get me in 2 Red Tiger Oscars. He said he has a 2" for £4/$8 and a 4" for £20/$40.
These are the smallest Oscars I have seen around in shops. ( Most are 10" ) So they are ideal for me.
I am just wondering, I know what I need tankwise, filterwise etc.
I am just wondering would two oscars of those size get on well?

ALSO If they are from the same breeder is it possible they are from the same mother?

Thanks alot
Happy Oscar Keeping

Hi and Welcome

It is always difficult to predict weather of not two Osacrs will get along. It is a hit and miss trial. If you get 2 males they will fight... If you get a pair you should be fine and if you get 2 females, you should be fine.. All you can do is try..

And if they are from the same breeder it is a good bet that they are siblings..

Good Luck

during juvenile stage, most young oscars get along well. however, as they grow up,
nobody could ever tell if they will get along well as well. if you have male and
female, chances are they will get along well...if they happen to be both male,
one will muscle up the other and you will be messed up.

ALSO If they are from the same breeder is it possible they are from the same mother?

Thanks alot

possible but not 100%. oscar could lay a load of eggs.
if they are of same size and color, chances are they came from same parents. lfs
usually get their stock by batch....

btw... welcome on board....

Welcome to the site. When you say "they are ideal for me", are you referring to the larger, or smaller Oscars? If the shop is selling two of the larger Oscars and they are in the tank together, you should be able to establish whether they are okay together, do they swim around together? This may well be an indication of whether they are used to being with each other.

The price for a 2 inch Oscar seems quite reasonable, £20 for a 4 inch Oscar seems a little excessive to me.

Nikki is correct, it's impossible to predict whether or not the Oscars will get on as adults, you'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks for the welcoming .
And they are ideal because they are so small. And at the other shop they had like 6 10" Oscars in like 3ft long tanks. So I don't feel too comfortable buying from there. There is one other shop that Id have to try for cheaper than £20.

As for the looking at them reply, they aren't in the shop at the moment. The owner said he would ask for them to be delivered with the other fish stock that day then he would ring me to come buy them.

I dont know if this is usually what stores do?

My first thought is that it would be stressful for a fish to be shipped, put in a new tank, transported again and rehomed again all in a day or two. I don't think it's unusual for people to special order fish though.

If/when I buy fish I first look at the condition of the care in the store. If the general health of the life in the store is poor then you're taking your chances right?
