I was just curious the types of oscars that your LFS carry. Everytime I go I see one that I want but I could never have enough room. Just today I saw some babies maybe an inch long, they were albinos but I have never seen an albino oscar that was completely white like this, It had no markings whatsoever it was what you could call a 'True Albino' I have only seen Red Oscars, Tiger Oscars, Common Oscars, and Albino I have never seen a veil tail or any other kind. Oh by the way I live In The US - Maryland.

The fish stores around me normally have red, albino/lutino and Tiger Oscars, I don't normally see many other strains. I suppose it depends on what they can get them if they think its worth selling these fish. The shops around me don't sell many Oscars at all because I don't think they are as popular as the small community fish, or marine fish.

I have seen a lot more stores carrying them and some in excess so I wonder how many people are properly taking care of these fish and I doubt many so I asked them if they could put a link to this site on the bottom of every oscar tank but I am waiting for them to "approve it" I think they probably won't but it was worth a try.

The Local shops here in Auckland sell only reds, red tigers & red tiger albinos.would love to see a veil tail

I use to be involved with oscars for 8years in South Africa and red tigers was the only oscar available the odd albino would appear but at a huge price.

As for auckland there is no local breeders here so all fish get imported from singapore, thailand ect.

i find that these oscars come into the country far to young(approx 1,5inch) and personal opinion is its to young to sell them at this age ive bought 7 oscars(still babys) in New Zealand which are currently in a 400L tank while my two 6foot tanks are cycling.
with buying all these oscars from them they never asked me once about my tank size/condition ect.

I think they LFS dont really know what they are selling, hopefully my babys will pair off in 15months and i can breed locally
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST

By the time I bought my Oscar the shops here would carry mostly albino, red and common Oscars, with the occasional tiger, in only small numbers and cheap. Never seen veiltails yet, never would get any neither, lol. Every time I go to an LFS I check if they have Oscars, and I haven't seen any for sale in quite a while now. Might be different in the bigger cities though. They are not that wanted here, most ppl want either Discus/Angelfish or riftlake cichlids when it comes to cichlids. Therefore I'd never think of breeding Oscars here. There are breeders, but probably not many. Big ones are mostly only offered by ppl that need to get rid of them.

Reminds me I once watched someone asking a sales person what kind of fish the Oscars were, and she said they were angelfish Thankfully most seem to know about the potential size of Oscars, but probably will still sell them to ppl that don't ask.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

One of the lfs i frequent recently got a load of very cool oscars including tiger veiltale, albino veiltail, lutino, and true albino oscars. It was pretty cool. Too bad my tanks are really highly stocked as it is or i would of bought them all:lol:

I have 6 fish shops near me, 2 small who rarely have oscars, 2 medium and 2 large. The 2 medium shops always have oscars especially one that seems to sell loads(they seem to get them in at about 40 at a time). This shop also manages to sell larger ones returned quite quickly.

The 2 larger shops has some oscars most of the time(around 10 or so). The 2 larger stores also always have a few larger fish(around 9 inches in size). One sells them at £35 each and dont seem to sell many, the other about £20 and more just keep coming. The bloke that runs it tells me he is always getting people bringing them back because they got too big

I have seen common, tiger, red, albino tiger and albino red. Still not sure on the difference between a common and a tiger. My common looks like a tiger. I have seen one veil tailed oscar once
I can't get no sleep

LFS here in the states usually carry Albino, Tiger, Red, and Common O's. Albinos and Tigers are more prevalent.
