Last night I was on Craigslist, (I know stupid move) but I found an Oscar that needs help...

This what the add says.

"Oscar needs a new home. He is running out space in our 20 gallon tank. Good health, very pretty markings. He eats gold fish, night crawlers and pelleted food. $20.00 OBO."


I have emailed her several times now... So we will see what happens

But my point to this is, this is the 3rd time I have run into this kind of problem. What the Hell are people thinking?

Ignorance, they just don't realize how big they get when they buy them as cute little babies. Even if someone does tell them they get big, they still want them and probably think they're going to stay like that for long time, and before they know where they are they too big for their little community tank. I was only at the local fish store today getting some food and that was a 6 inch red oscar that was only brought in yesterday, I'm willing to bet that it came from the same shop only a few months ago.

At the places I frequent, there is never any kind of warning telling people how big the fish get.

Go get him Nickisue, he'll have a great home.

LOL, Funny you should say that Penn... I frequent Petsmart here often. I have taught them so much about Cichlids it isn't even funny! The manager knows me by name! LOL...

I just wish there was a way to get people to think first!

I got an email back from this woman...
"He is six inches long, roughly the size of my hand and in very good health. I am flexable on the price, I would just like him to go to a good home with a bigger tank. Thanks, Jodi"

So I replied to her.
"Is there anyway you could send me pictures of him? How old is he? Or rather how long have you had him? LOL. Thanks

We will see what happens... I have an empty 55 at the moment.. So I can make it work.. But I really wish these babies had a fighting chance....

What sort of annoys me is that she still wants money for the fish. If she can no longer care for, she should let someone have it you can care for properly, it's not as if she's going to become rich by selling it.

I would bet I can get him Free, but that is really not my concern... I will pay her to get him out of that situation...

But I want pics first.. I don't need to spend the next 6 months fighting HITH or a bunch of other issues...

That's probably wise, the last thing you want to do is have to spend a fortune on medication. How far away from you is she?

She is about 10 minutes away... But this would make the 4th rescue in my house... The pair I have was a rescue... This guy had both Oscars, 3 Large pleco's and 18 goldfish in a 35!

He was going to kill the Oscars because he wanted something else... I was going to kill him!

I just got another email from her...

"We bought him at Pet Smart about a year ago and he was small. He ate very well this summer due to my son feeding him grasshoppers and any bugs he could catch! I will try to get a good picture of him for you. Thanks, Jodi"
