The other morning, I woke up to find that my oscar had jumped out of the tank. It is a pretty tall tank that was on a table about 3 feet off the ground. has anyone heard of this happening before? There was a lid and a flap on the lid that was down.

Hi there and welcome.. This is a common problem with Oscars... It happens frequently! Just make sure to reinforce your lids so it doesn't happen again!

Is your Oscar ok?

Unfortunately, he didn't make it. He did it in the middle of the night. I was really really upset about it, I loved that fish. I just got another yesterday to replace him.

I have never had an Oscar jump out of the actual tank, that is because I always have a lid on my tank However on more than one occasion the Oscar has jumped inside the tank and hit the underside of the lid so what happened to you is not unheard of. We have definitely had more than one member tell us of something like this happening to them.

Sad to hear, but it's good to know he's replaced allready.
What kind of O was he, and what is your new one.
I can lock the lower glass-slates under the side ledge, then the fish can't jump out but kock them selves outinstead when spooked.
But a KO is usually better than a Free-Fall.

This is quite common. This is why open tanks are not a good idea. I have cover glass and a wooden lid
I can't get no sleep
