they look like ordinary juveniles to me, the wild Oscar is drab in colour compared to shop bought ones and tend to be an olive green.

As far as I'm concerned, a wild Oscar is exactly what it says, an Oscar that has been caught from the wild, not one that has been bred in captivity. Maybe I'm being too pedantic? It's very easy for shops to label some of their fish "wild", but how do you really know? This picture shows the true wild Oscar that has obviously been caught in its native environment and probably ended up on somebody's dinner plate. It's not a particularly nice photo but shows a true wild Oscar.

Whoops, had been typing and dropped out, and meanwhile Penn beat me to it. Just pasting it again:

Great looking one, well for my taste
It's a A. crassipinis though, I guess what you mean would be wild A. ocellatus? I seemed to remember having seen pics of wild caught baby Oscars at cjexotics but can't find them now, maybe was somewhere else. I think they can as well have red on them, maybe depending on the location where they're from.
There are several pics at Jepp Rapps: http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

I think you're right, the fish will vary in colour depending on where they come from, after all, the Amazon is a mighty big place. Oscars live in many parts of it.

Yeah. The pic you posted is astrotus crassipinnis(as you know) which is one of the four species of oscars- astrontus occelatus, astrontus crassipinnis, astrontus sp. "Xingu" and astrontus orbicularis, all of which i wrote about in a previous thread. Wild oscars look alot like tiger oscars with some green coloration in there too:

This is an interesting link, it's just a shame the photos are such poor quality. I think someone has tried to compress them too much
