My pleco communicates with my Vieja, by trying to stab him with his fins if she's fed up with the Vieja.
That's as far as it goes, in communication skills.
Why, what did you think?
Does it look like they're chit-chatting?

I wouldn't have thought so. However, each fish will probably recognize aggression which is a form of communication I suppose

no because when i had my pleco and oscar my oscar would keep messing with him and the pleco and oscar would do like a staredown lol



but can a clown loach or firemouth communicate with a oscar

Then fish use colour changes and "blowing up" as a signal to other fish.
But i think that's communication as well.

I think it depends on what your definition of communication is. An Oscar and a Pleco are a completely different species of fish, why would they need to communicate apart from showing each other signs to stay away from each other?

i guess theay would like any other human animal ect. our oscars and the plecos play all the time and show aggression twards each other like humans do

Honestly I believe all species can learn to communicate with eachother in some way...The way our dogs understand us...the way you can understand them...No I am sure there is no conversation, however I am sure there is a lot of body language. How do you know when your pet needs to use the bathroom...or how does a dog know to lay down just by the look you give them. How do your fish know when to eat..How do you know when somethings wrong with them. How can my Oscar tell me from my friends...He'll only take food from me. There are all types of ways to communicate..I am sure we are'nt the only species communicating with other animals.

actually, i agree on that...oscar flaring the gills is already a sign of
communicating.... telling the other one..."get out of my way".
