Hello Everyone,
i have planned on moving out of my parents house for a long time now and was going to wait to finish school(end of summer 2010), but due to recent events i am moving with in the next week or so and at the very latest before christmas. Basically, as soon as i can find a place, im gone.
I have a 100 gal tank that i am going to be taking with me along with my two oscars. They are each about 3 inches now. I have a few questions about moving and transporting the oscars:

- Should i try to save some of the current tank water?
I can probably get some 5 gal buckets from work to put some of the water in to transport, maybe 30-40 gals or so.

-What would be the best way to to transport the fish?

-What can i use to protect the tank glass when moving? (will probably be in the back of a UHAUL truck)

Im in a pinch for time, sorry if there was a thread out there already about this.

Any advice would be appreciated,
thanks!

a lot depends on how far you are moving but i am going to guess you are not moving far

Save and take as much water as you can but the important thing is to keep the media in your filter wet all the time

Your fish are small so a container the size of a bucket will do but bigger is better

Lay your tank on a nice thick blanket but make sure you sweep the floor first, any small hard objects may break the glass
I can't get no sleep

when i moved i put my oscar in a bucket(with a lid) with the tankwater and put some stress coatin there

I use a piece of styrofoam underneath the tank, when transporting.
Take care you got no other loose stuff in the truck that can crash through the glass.
Good luck in finding a new home.

Thanks Noddy
im thinking twice about using the 5 gallons buckets from work, due to the fact that they might have something in them that could contaminate the water. the buckets are former soap buckets and what not. some of them look clean but im skeptical.
im thinking maybe of using ice chests??

An Ice chest will work, but those buckets can be washed out and rinsed really well... And they should be just fine!

I only use new buckets for my fish that have never been in contact with soap.
Even tiny fragments of garage soap would kill off all bacteria in your filter.
Youre tank will have no algae, though, so i guess that could be nice.
i bought some nice fishy design buckets and they're never washed.
