True, but in regards to Oscar's it seems as if there's no need to add salt to a freshwater tank unless treating a specific condition. At best, it’ll do nothing beneficial at all and at worst it can actually make them more susceptible to disease...so why do it unless absolutely necessary?

i have actually found that kosher salt from the grocery store is good. Its rock salt and not iodized.

I used Mediterranean sea salt and heat to cure my oscar when it contracted a bad case of Ich and a subsequent fungus infection... did it for 10 days with 25% water changes daily and its completely gone..

I have since continued my daily water changes due to the small tank, and have had no reoccurred of sickness. :cheer:

Came across a product called American Cichlid Salt by Seachem. Looks promising. Anyone ever tried it??

I remember being told that adding Kosher salt to a fresh water tank helps fish when they get stressed and stuff and I tried it when my tank was cycling dont know if it helped but the fish survived

How about using sand coral for the bottom of the tank?
