I got home from work today to have an unpleasant surprise.
My Oscar has his fins injured and it seems like they've been nipped badly.
Yesterday i took some pics and watched my fish, but my O only had a small injury with some red ending to the spines.
Today one of the spines is missing and it looks bitten off leaving one fin totally ruptured.
His other fin is ruptered at the ends too.
I took some bad pictures, here they are:

Just for the record, Ammonia + nitrites-0,Nitrates 20, kH 7, Temp 23oC.
When I'm around my Vieja is the only one displaying aggression towards my O , but there never was any damage before.
His other fins are fine.
I suspect my Vieja did the damage and I must say I'm not pleased.
My SD.s and Gar do never oppose my O.
If anyone wants to speak in defense of my Vieja, please do so.
Or I may have to ask Paul for a nice Vieja recipy, for I will not tolerate this behaviour towards my O.
I wish i had seen it happen, but I didn't.

Noddy, I am so sorry... I know it makes me mad when one of the fish screws with my Oscars.. You know the drill.. Good water will fix the fin. And all you can do is watch them closely to see who is doing it!

Good luck Hun!

Even though these rips and tears in the fins look quite bad, they normally grow back perfectly okay so I would be inclined not to worry about it, it doesn't like fin rot or anything like that, just an injury that is easily caused.

Aggreed on the healing.
I'm sure that will work out fine.
At the moment my Pseudacanthicus pleco is growing back it's biggest tail spine, that was completely severed.
But it a shame that whoever is doing this, may cause more trouble when I'm not around.
I think the Vieja may have to move, cuz i got no spare big tank to house her in.
She allready made my O knock himself out once, and doing damage like this is NOT adding points to her karma!
That'll take of some of my bioload as well.
They say Oscars are pigs, Vieja are far worse and will eat allmost anything.
Think i should place security cameras to catch the Vieja in the act, when I'm not around.

Thanx, i hope so too, but I'm kinda getting ready to let the Vieja go.
If she keeps disturbing my O.
It's a shame, but i do not need aggressive fish with my Gentle giants.
her verocious appetite starts to interfere with my handfeeding, and the handfeeding is the best part of my day.My O grabs a lil' food and ducks down when that whale of a Vieja starts hoovering the food.
Might go for some smaller tankmates, since my O is not interrested in bothering other fish.
Maybe swap her for a nice severum they had at the LFS. They looks very dark blue and had a lovely faceexpression and beautifull eyes.
Thinking of new fish may make it easier to let her go.

btw might try the time out bag, and as some of you know, that can be a real killer in my case!

Shame on Vieja... O's are #1 and don't mess with them. There is probably at least one toilet in your house that he could swim around! Just kidding... hope your O gets better quickly!! Remember the pics I posted when Piglet was beating up on Red? Well, he is healing very nicely and starting to stand up for himself. Piglet is still a b$&@*h !!

I checked with my LFS today and he was not too thrilled about a getting a big Vieja, but said he will take her in, if I'm fed up with her behaviour.
So that's good but still a tough decision for i see no aggression.
But i got all Xmas to think it over.

It's just that this is gonna be the first fish ever that i have to give up due to aggression issues.
i had to rehome fish before but that was because they became too big and had to go in ponds.
But in the end i'll allways be a OscarFishLover.
Bolle's health comes first and if he's hurt all my attention will go to his injuries and preventing those in the future.
And in the end it's his tank....
