When I got home from work I found my tiger (Clyde) on the floor. I don't know how he could have done it. the lids were closed leaving only about a 1" gap at the back where the filter intake and outputs run.
I was so happy that I had a pair that had grown up together, but thats over.

Now what can I put in the tank with Bonnie the Albino?
My take is 110 gal with plenty of filtration. I have 6 SD, 4 Gouramis, and now just the one Oscar.
What about a Pacu?

Thanks for letting me share.

Sorry for your loss.

A Pacu would get way too large for the tank you have now...they can reach sizes of around 24" long!

Really sorry to hear about your fish, that is very sad. Believe me you are not the first person who this has happened to, I don't expect you'll be the last. It seems that our dear little The Oscar cichlid can be a bit of an escape artist. The only thing I can suggest is having a substantial lid that is closed all the time, don't underestimate the power of an Oscar, they can lift even the heaviest lid.

I would suggest another Oscar and see how you get on. As for a pacu, now, these fish get too big, 24 inches quite easily in an aquarium, over a metre in the wild.

Good luck

i lost two fish thru a 1" or smaller gap around a filter, one was an oscar, and the other was a dragon goby. its surprising how they can get thru a small gap like that.

that 110 isnt big enough for a fully grown pacu by itself. in the wild they reach well over 3 feet and 60 pounds.

JD's do eat the same as an Oscar.. i have no idea how fast they grow as I got mine as an adult. Total she is about 8 inches long and 2 inches tall. I love mine, and I am looking for an adult male! LOL

Sorry for the loss.

I lost my first Oscar about a month ago... Sad for me, because they are like aquatic dogs once they get to know you.

Have you considered another Oscar? Maybe get a larger one to start with so (s)he can't fit in the gap?

Cheers,
