That must have been the wisest decicion.
I had to give up my 10" Vieja yesterday, for bullying and hurting my O.
I felt bad at first, but now within a day my Oscar has taken over the whole tank territory again.
He comes to beg for food everytime i get near the tank again, and he stopped doing that for some time, due to the bullying.
He's back to his old behaviour, so now I'm very happy with the choise i made.
Hope yours is pleased as well!

IMO, yes.
In their natural environment i think 60% of their food consists of bugs and larvae, that fall from trees.
I only feed my O all kinds of worms as staple food.
Mind you, feeding live worms can very easily spoil your Oscar into not taking pellets anymore...
I resolve to gutloading the mealworms with mixed fishfood aand pellets, and feeding those to my O for some extra nutricional value.

My tank looks a bit more empty at the moment, but my O has made it clear that he does not need another tankmate to be happy.
My o and my Gar still make a cool couple, so I'm not adding any more fish for now.

There's some info.
I pay 1,25 Euros for half a box, and that will feed my fish for about 2 weeks!
I buy them at my local tackle and bait/ reptile shop.
If you feed the mealworms and keep them at roomtemp, the worms will turn into larvae, which your O will also like, but they tend to cloud the water for some time.
If you wait a bit longer a black beetle will come out of the larvae, and that will make your O go really crazy!
If my O could choose any food by behaving overly excited, then it is these mealworm bugs!

The worms usually are all eaten before they become bugs, though.

now that's gonna be a guess, for I buy the smallest portion, for they're mainly used as fishbait..
I guess i feed my Oscar 25 to 50 mealworms a feeding, but that totally depends on how much my O wants at a time. He just over a year and 10".
Sometimes he just takes a few and loses interest.
I feed every other day.
An oscar should grow upto about 8-10 " within a year, then growth rate slows down a bit.
I suppose the 3,5 incher is only a couple of months old now?

I started out with bloodworms and pellets, and switched to the small mealworms after that.
Mind you an oscar doesn't care if the food fits, they'll try it anywayz!

Yes, they stay worms for very long if cooled.
I take 2 days of foodworms and put those in a seperate box, with some pellets added.
I want them gutloaded, but not feisting on the pellets.
