I did a search and from what I can tell a Ruby Red is a mix between a Red and an albino...not sure what they look like as I've never heard of them but they seem legit.

If I'm wrong please correct me though!

Here is a link to the ones they sell on aquascapeonline...from what i've been told it is a pretty reputable company to deal with so hopefully they wouldn't be selling dyed fish...

i haven't seen an oscar with that color... but aquascape used to advertise
oscar with different color code as to bronze, metallic blue...etc....
however, i believe all of them were just dyed... because until today, nobody
had claim having an adult oscar with those color as advertised.

The only thing is that it looks like the picture you posted is a painting so if they are legit colored oscars they probably won't be that vibrant anyway...I have heard of people saying they had Ruby Red Oscars which was a red and lutino mix and not dyed...it is pretty easy to tell if one is dyed by looking at it...they just don't look "right"...almost a sickly looking fish. Its very sad.

i found this article last week while looking for info on short bodied oscars.
It's from oscarfish.com.
I do not know the site, but the pics of ruby reds are halfway the article.

www.scribd.com/doc/6758308/Oscar-Fish

this site put them right in front of the "Dyed" fish section.
and states that this fish has a original colour like this.
I haven't seen them before but that doesn't count for much.

the way i am, if theres doubt about the history of the fish... i pass on it. i dont support cruelty to animals. dyed fish are a big no no for me.

im not 100% sure on this but i do beleive that the ruby red or super red oscar is not a dyed fish but an actual colour morph that has been attained through line breeding.
i know that my fish guy has asked me if i might be interested in some since he has found a line on importing them. and i know for a fact he is very much opposed to dyed fish.

just my 2 cents
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

time will tell, if they are not dyed they will slowly get more common and eventually will be one of the normal types of oscar (and will be very popular too)
