Never heard anything about crickets containing lots of calcium. Anyway, as part of a balanced diet, crickets make an excellent source, this is actually the sort of food that they would feed on in the wild, especially in the flooded rainforests.

yes, they will be perfectly okay to use. It doesn't even matter if the crickets die, they are not like mammals, they won't rot and maybe upset your fishes stomach, they just dry up to nothing
I posted a video a few months ago for somebody who wanted to start up breeding crickets, there was a young lady who showed you exactly how to do it,don't know where that one is for the moment, but here is another one

the danger of breeding crickets is the never ending chirping at night time.
and the possibility that your soup will have one
I thought cricket's were part of your diet Paul, you seem to like eating most other little critters

yes it is .... it is being done stir-fried here.
i am not kidding Penn....but they should come in swarming quantity...people do use
big net to catch them, put in sack or bag.... douche with vinegar, and stir-fry...
same is true with beetle in a tamarind tree....
these bugs can pose a threat to your Oscar, ...
for they may jump to get them, before you can drop them into your tank!
My O just loves those and you can find me and my family in the forest hunting for bugs in the springtime.
Crickets are another favorite, but I started to dislike them after several had escaped and kept chirping all night long.
I just couldn't catch them and they drove me crazy!

Paul eats everything his fish don't eat. infact he will even eat the fish
as for breeding crickets consider the smell and noise. the smell is very strong you will always get a few that escape too. did i mention the smell I have failed in my attempt to breed them.
The video doesn't mention you need a heat mat, like you use for a reptile not sure on the actual temp but hotter than a room in the uk.

I can buy a box of live cricket that will feed my Oscars for a week for £2.95, would I bothered breeding them, no

this is what I came to realise. my arow is a little more greedy than a oscar but I just can't be arsed with the risk of having crickets around the house
