OK...I know some places aren't allowed to keep them due to them establishing in the wild. Just wondering if anyone has ever used these to feed to their O's?

The are extremely easy to breed, quiet, can't climb or fly, very clean and easy to maintain, and they don't smell awful like crickets. Many reptile owners are switching to them to use as feeders for these reasons and they are much more nutritious and meaty than crickets are. They barely have any die off like crickets either.

Wasn't sure if they would be ok for an O but I don't see why not. I used to breed them a while back when I was thinking about getting a bearded dragon...they take a few months to establish a stable colony for a lizard to feed off but would be much quicker I would think for a fishy snack.

Just thought i'd mention it since i've seen a few cricket breeding posts and thought this might be an easier alternative.

Also if you have questions on how to breed them let me know...they are quite easy.

ive fed tons of American cockroaches (the bigass 2" ones) to my oscar. it loves them. they are everywhere around here, kick around some wood lol. i got stacks of lumber out in my shed and they will get in the gaps and congregate lol. its not hard to catch them kinda worry about the what if factor with the wild ones tho know, but its not going to be any different for a fish in the river lol, same thing right? lol.

Very true...The nice thing about breeding the dubia roaches is that you have all sizes to feed from...the nymphs look like potato bugs...or pill bugs...whatever they are called down there. Probably wouldn't need to breed for just one O but if you had a lot of fish it might not be a back venture.

We don't have many "wild" roaches here...haha..too damn cold for them! They were smart and moved down to warmer weather like I should!

I know crickets are nasty. That's a good thought.

Yeah, thats why more people who have reptiles are starting to breed the roaches instead of crickets...plus they are much more nutritious than roaches.

Here is a website of a guy who has starter kits and stuff and care sheets...also he is outstanding to deal with...great customer service! I have used him in the past so I'm speaking from personal experience...here is the link in case anyone is interested at all:
