hey im new here,i was wondering if I could get some feedback on what has been happening.

I have a Red Oscar and he is in the tank with a Jack Demsey and one of those sucker fish which is about as bigt as a middle finger and it really doesnt bother him but he chases the Jack Demsey around. The jack demsey is not as big as him.He is about 6-7 inches and he is really moody. He rips up the fake plants we have in there, and he picks up rocks with his mouth and spits them at the glass.and he also clears a spot in his tank of all the rocks..i dont know what hes trying to do or tell us,maybe i could get some feedback.

as far as i know, hes very well fed..in good health and we check the water levels often.

help please

the sucker thing you are refering to must be a pleco.

could you maybe give us the readings from yr Water parameters i.e. ph, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite. so we have a beter understanding of what is going on in yr tank

thanks

Hey Brain, welcome to OFL!

My first thought when reading that was "typical", lol. Not knowing anything else yet about your tank I'd suspect this to be just normal Oscar behaviour. Oscars are known to rip plants apart and move things around and dig, some more, some less. And being cichlids, they are also territorial. At that size/age it's kinda comparable with human puberty Often they get a bit calmer again once matured.
What size is your tank? If the space allows, you could try to create a bit of a structure that might help with establishing territories or just for the Jack Dempsey to get outta the eyes of the Oscar at times. JD's are no angels neither from what I've heard, so things might change again. Just make sure none of the fish gets really injured or stressed too much.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

I agree with metoo, perfectly normal behaviour for an oscar. They rip up plants, and dig an area and defend it. If the JD's fins are not getting nipped and is eating then dont worry. JD's can be,but not always, be real aggressive (they are named after a boxer) so watch your oscar when the JD get bigger
