Im currently in a little money trouble but i really want to get some aquarium objects for my Jack Dempsey and Oscar..(mostly for my JD to relax so he isn't getting chased around by my Oscar(which I've named "Albert" for "Albert Fish",look him up haha)..I cant go out to the pet stores and buy a 39 dollar ornament at the moment..so i was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. Iveh eard of people using pipes, and such..

Just something ordinary i could put in there to brighten it up and provide temporary shelter for JD to relax without worrying about getting mauled by my highly territorial oscar haha.

thanks

in my opinion go to the local hardware store and buy a ceramic pot without any paint and fancy stuff on just a plain standard pot, probably about $5 to $10max,give it a bgood boil in hot water and add it 2 yr tank depending on the size of dempsey u could even break the pot i half to give it sum carhacter.

that is my idea as this is what i did in my little 30 Liter bristlenose tank and it looks pretty good.
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST

Yes, pots are a good idea, and pipes should be pretty cheap as well in the hardware store. Or you could try half a coconut shell if the JD fits in still. If there is a chance you'd find slate rock or river rock anywhere near where you live, it would cost nothing even. But gotta make sure there is no metals and preferably no limestone in them, and to arrange them in a way they would be stable even with big digging fish.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

PVC pipe fittings are pretty inexpensive and come in a variety of shapes. There are T's and elbows and all kinds of shapes. I've heard of people covering them with aquarium gravel to make them a little more pleasing to look at.

There are several articles on making caves here.

You can use roofing slate, carefully break it in large rectangular pieces and assemble into box shapes and stick together with aquarium sealer. This is cheap if you can get the slate cheap

If you go for PVC pipes go for the stuff that is at least 4inches in diameter as JD get reasonable big

In my tank i have large rocks on the floor with bogwood to provide the top (just make sure its stable)
I can't get no sleep
