Is there any way to tell an Oscars age?
I have a re-homed red, who is about 8-9 inches. Is ther anyway I can tell if it is full grown or still growing?
I know that 8-9 inches should represent maybe a year, but it could be full grown, but raised in a bad environment?

Unless the person who had the Oscar from a very young age can give you an indication of how long they've had it, trying to guess the age of an Oscar is impossible. However, an eight or 9 inch Oscar kept in good condition is more than likely slightly less than one year old.

Thanks Penn, I added a pic, but the bright flash washed out the color quite a bit.

looking at the picture, your oscar is a young 10 month old fella. older oscar though
having same size will show contour at the head before the fin but young muscular
o will not. (tips from the breeders ) the smooth shoulder
means your oscar is a healthy young fully grown but not yet adult...expect it to
grow more provided you can maintain good water and varied feedings.

full grown adult will sport a contour on the head like this:
