Hey all,

I'm a new Oscar Owner So let me start by saying I've been told by my other Oscar Owning friends that this is the greatest info/site for Oscars.

Now my ??.

My RTO's are locking there mouths together and swimming around in circles all of the 75gl tank. Is this a Mating ( I dont know the sexes there only 3")?
Or is this a territory/aggression thing.
any help on this would be great??
Tks

we have a great community of people who really know their stuff so you should get all the information you need from us.

Okay, the Oscars are far too young to start breeding so this is probably a territorial issue. It is not uncommon for two Oscars to act like this. In many cases they get on just fine and occasionally have a little scrap, more serious cases may mean splitting the fish up if injuries are being caused on a regular basis.

I've got to say that 75 gallons is not big enough for two adult Oscars so it may be advisable for you to upgrade in the not-too-distant future, remember oscars are fast-growing fish and they will be quite big within one year.

Anyway, if you have anymore questions you only have to ask, finally let me welcome you to our community, I'm sure that you enjoy it here.

sorry about that didn't mean to do the long page thing

I guess its just like people sometimes they fight. I've never seen them tussle though. they stick beside each other like glue. I was really expecting to hear more of a mating issue, since the darker one has been what looks like sniffing the others but.( plz forgive my description).

as for the tank I am having 2 140's being built in my office, they'll be ready in about 3 months. The RTO's will be going into one of them. with a stingray in the other.

as for growth how fast do these guys grow.??

oscars normally grow an inch a month or maybe more sometimes, depends on what you feed them etc. you might want to check out this topic, i posted the progress of my oscars growth in 3 months.. www.oscarfishlover.com/oscar-fish-advice...progress-in-3-months

Hi I'm afraid 75 gallons will not be big enough for two adults Oscars. You are looking at an absolute minimum of 100 gallons, however 125 gallons would be the absolute minimum I would keep two adults Oscars in. These fish can easily reach 12 inches, found very very messy and create a rather large bioload. It's all very well having a really good filtration system, but if you haven't got enough water on your system you will still end up with poor water quality

Feeding so infreqentley will help with the water quility, but young oscars like yours 3" should eat twice a day at least. If you want them to be big and strong.. after the first year you can use your curent schedule..

Just my thoughts.
