What would happen, our oscar is about 3-4". Hes new to the tank. I heard rumours and stories about starting young when putting hands in the tank then as they age they become tame to your hand etc.

What would happen?

well if your holding a piece of food when you do it... if you do it enough times... the oscar will learn to come take the food from your hand, and after that it may even rub on your hand or let you pet it... or it might just bite the hell out of you for no good reason.

I tried this while Bob was little. He does ok now at 6 inches but sometimes he will just bite me for no reason. He will take food from my hand but tries to take my hand with it. I guess like all animals they differ from fish to fish. I see people petting thier Oscars. Bob will have non of that. Give it a try. Yours may end up very tame.

take some bloodworms in between your fingers and put your hand in the water.
They will probably come and have a taste.
Mine got used to that within a week.
When there a bit bigger switch to mealworms.
Handfeeding is fun!
Watch your fingers though...

but usually he's pretty carefull.

lately he starts biting me during or after waterchanges.
But i rather have him bite me, than my Gar...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting your hand in the tank as long as it is clean of course. However, be aware that Oscars are more than capable of drawing blood.

I stopped feeding my Oscar by hand because he was getting quite aggresive with my fingers. I can put my hand in the tank without food and he seems a little curious,
but not aggresive.

I wouldnt recommend hand feeding not only because they might bite you while feeding them but also because you dont want your fish hassling you thinking it is going to get fed everytime you need to put your hand in the tank to do some maintanence
I can't get no sleep

some say the acid on your hand can hurt them but i wouldent be worried
go for it i pet my oscars all the time
although i would hate to see fish fight, my oscar would kick your oscars ass!
