First of all before I ask my question; I would just like to thank everyone in the community for being so helpful over the past month or so. Also I would like to apologise for all the threads I am/have been making, I am unsure if it is annoying any members of the forum. If it is I do apologise, I am relatively new to fish keeping and have only just got my first ever cichlids and first ever oscar!

Here is my new Oscar;

I got him yesterday and it was listed as a 2" Oscar... I dont know if there is a specific way to measure Oscar's but that looks well over 2".

I have put all my foods into boxes now and I have a box of bloodworms, a box of Hikari Cichlid Gold Medium Pellets and a box of NewEra Centeral&South American Pellets.
To be honest, with all the food I have put in the tank, the Oscar is never near where the fish eat. The Oscar looks happy but will it still be eating? There are often bits of the Gold Pellets floating around, will it be picking them off as they circulate with the water flow?

I was wondering, I've read alot about Oscars and I think it would enjoy a nice live treat ( Not feeder fish! ) I was thinking of earthworms. I was going to make a wormery tomorrow but I was wondering, Is my Oscar too young to eat earthworms? Or too new to the tank?

Thanks again

I think your little fish would absolutely adore a nice big juicy worm full of vitamins and goodness, go for it

When my Oscar was small I would cut the worms into small pieces and he went crazy for them. You can also get small Crickets at Petsmart.

since its a small guy yet, try some sun dried gammarus shrimp, they will love them! they make excellent treats! when its bigger you can give it krill instead, always a good feed.

crickets and earthworm and mealworm all make great foods too

ive found gamarus and krill will bring around a picky eater. not many fish can resist them

Thanks for all the replies . I will look at my LFS for Krill, Shrimp, Crickets etc.

A question about bloodworms too, my LFS sells different types, they have King British Bloodworms in a blue tub like normal fish food, They have Freeze Dried Interpet BLood Worms and they have TetraFreshDelica Whole BloodWorms What is the difference between all of them? The Freeze dried and KB are similar but the Tetra is in small packets and are wet and in jelly?

i get mine from the frozen food section, they are cubes that i have to defrost before feeding them.
They indded have different sizes.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

Good News; He has started eating. I put some Freeze Dried worms in and was sat near the tank then heard an abnormal splash so I investigated and it was just the O eating away!

He only ate a few worms and one single Gold Pellet, is that enough for a few hours??
