They are 100% Oscar.
They have been bred for the tail.

Yes, they are just like any other Oscar, tiger, red, not found in the wild, bred especially for the commercial market.

You can't mix two species of fish, not like a tiger and a lion can breed and end up with a liger. I don't know how they breed these Oscars, but they haven't used a another fish with a long tail for instance.

its done over many generation of breeding. like how the do colour morphs of fish.
you start with two who through a mutation has a longer tail and then keep breeding them until the tail lengthens to what is seen today as veiltail.
kinda like how different breeds of dogs where made.
have you not noticed that wild oscasr look nothing like reds or tigers???

Sorry, what I meant by different fish is the family the fish is in. For instance dogs are all the same species so they can all breed with each other although you have different breed of dog. However I didn't think it's possible to mix two families of fish.

I can't imagine that interbreeding generation after generation is particularly good for a species of fish. Oscars often have health problems whereas other fish don't seem to have any problems whatsoever, could this be because of this very reason I wonder?
