TOPIC: Fighting oscars

Fighting oscars 2 years, 3 months ago #75810

I have three oscars in a 90 gallon tank and they are fighting. Any suggestions on hpw to stop them from hurting each other because the are biting scales off each other thanks!

how big are you oscars? if there anywhere near full grown then your tank is too small to handle the fish and thus will constantly fight, you need a bigger tank or need to rehome some fish.

if they are only babies and thus much smaller it could be down to sex.

Some oscars are more aggressive than others and some are downright mean.

They fight for various reasons, it can be territory and they look like they fight when they get ready for breeding (they lip lock).

If yours are full grown and 2 have paired up then you will have no choice but to rehome the third or it will get beat up real real bad and may even be killed. Sometimes oscars just dont get on and you have to separate them. You can try rearanging the tank decor. If they still fight try a divider in the tank. Leave it in until the injured one is healed and them put the agressive one in the other side, if they still fight bad then separating for good is the only answer. how you do this with 3 oscars depends on whether one or 2 are getting beaten up

How big are your oscars and how many are getting beat up. Is one more aggressive than the others or does it look like 2 are ganging up on the third

The best advice I can give is to rehome 1 oscar as 3 tend not to live together well. Which one you rehome is up to you. If they are not of breeding age then i would get rid of the aggressive one but if they are full grown and 2 seem to have paired up them rehome the other

Ok so your fish are not of breeding age so its aggression that is the problem. You can try separating the beaten up one with a divider and then putting the other 2 into its half after 3 or 4 days. However as i said 3 dont often dont get on together and you tank isnt big enough for 3 oscars. If i were you i would rehome an oscar - the aggressive one. Do you know which one is doing the bullying?

large thing plastic, net as long as its secure

think yr main priority would be finding the aggressive one a new home, yr tank isnt big enough to house yr oscars im afraid

I bought a piece of glass that fits from front to back and bottom(so its sits in the gravel a little) to just above top of the water, hold it in place with suckers. Some people use a sheet of plastic (Its a good idea to have a divider just in case as you never know when you might need one). If you only have one filter have the inlet on one side of the divider and the outlet on the other

I must stress to you that your tank isnt big enough for 3 oscars so you need to rehome one. Up to you which one but i would recommend the agressive one. The reason for this is he may start to pick on your other oscar once the weakest is gone!!!

first of all m8 your tank probably is too small for 3 oscars i too have a 90 gallon that houses 2 oscars about the same size as yours and some people tell me thats only just big enough.
usually when oscars start fighting this aggressivly they will never get on.
only a couple of things i can suggest 1) rearanging the tanks interior sometimes can help takes oscars minds of fighting but only sometimes does this work and if it does dont always last 2) just like some1 else said try putting a divide in the tank for a few days too a week then reintroduce the oscars.
if none of these work and they still bully the oscar i suggest rehousing the aggresive oscar not something you want too do i know but if it carrys on the bullied oscar will eventually get too stressed out and die but its up 2 u m8.
