tubifex worms for baby oscars? 2 years, 3 months ago #76006

is it a good idea if i feed my baby oscars live tubifex worms? i've read some where that it is bad for your fish to consume tubifex due to the bacteria they have. is this true??

mine does eat freeze dried tubifex.. no problems so far.
as a betta breeder, ive never heard any negative things about tubifex worms, as some of my fellow breeders use chopped tubifex as a transitional feed for betta fries. the only negative thing ive heard is of microworms, as it is always related to ventral fin growth stunting of bettas bcos of it's sinking properties.

one thing u should be clear of.. ANY live food can bring bad bacteria to ur fish. thats why u should be sure to clean/rinse them b4 feeding to ur fish. another thing to take note is where does the live food come from. make sure they dont come from some commercial areas with insecticides and weed poisons. foods like tubifex and bloodworms gathered from certain areas has bad bacteria in their bodies, which is quite impossible to remove. thats why certain breeders like me prefer to use freeze dried or frozen worms. at least we know that they are commercially raised and sterilized.
