Does anyone know if melafix is safe for your bio filter. Being that it is antibacterial I was wondering if it was detrimental to your bacteria in your bio filter.

i have used melafix many times to help with cuts and abrasions on my fish and have never had a problem with it destroying my beneficial bacteria. the only thing i didnt like about it was the eucalyptus(sp?) smell that accompanied it.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all

x2!

one thing i noticed, and this may just be coincidental because of the injury i had to deal with, but it seemed like i needed to add extra airation when using it. dont know that that is a fact or anything, but i had used it to deal with a fungal issue and notice all my fish hovering at the surface. hooked an air pump up and they went back to normal (i dont normally run air in my tanks).

melafix is good for treating open wound or fin rot and fungi infection.
it does not affect good bacteria at all but will make your fish not eating
for a while... aeration is a must since we normally raised the temp and
depleted the oxygen in the tank.

It defiantly has a strong eucalyptus smell, but I don't find it offensive.

I'm allready running extra ariation, so maybe it won't be a problem.

Thats probably a good temp.Raising the temperature seems to speed the healing process as well as killing the ICK.

i dont know bout melafix, but other meds with aloevera is known to cause some gill problems impairing the breathing, especially to small fishes.
raising temperature is mainly for speeding up the life cycle of certain fungus like ich and velvet..
