Okay. I'm still unsure as to what type of oscar my little Oshie is? Just the common, or red?

I wouldn't say it's a common, or a red. From what I can see of your photo, it doesn't really have any of the "tiger" markings. I'm pretty sure you can probably get a mishmash so you end up with something in between, just like dogs and cats. After all, a lots of Oscars are so interbred in a lot of cases, you get a little bit of everything.

When you bought the Oscar, was it just in the tank marked as Oscars?

It was marked as red oscar. They were all the same as him. They should have put them up as 'Tazzie Oscars'!!!
The old joke from the mainland about Tasmanians having two heads because were stuck on a little island away from the mainland so we interbreed....incase no one knew that!
hehehe

I do actually suffer a degree of colour blindness so maybe there is some red in your Oscar, I just can't see it myself. And I'm pretty sure that to classify as a red Oscar, it has to have a degree of red in it somewhere. However, this is one of my red Oscars when it was in the hospital tank. This is also marketed at the red Oscar, I can see plenty of red

I think oshie is a red oscar but instead of the usual red colour he is a very pale red. Some foods are supposed to bring out the red colours in fish, try feeding him some of those and se what happens to his colour over the next few month. Or try feeding him shrimp, that will make him redder, Flamingos are red because they eat shrimp

Your oscar is definitely a red Oscar. You can enhance the colour of your fish by feeding it river shrimps or meal worms

Ah, very good!! I will have to try that. I know he loved the prawns I gave him before, a big treat. So I think he'll like that!

hehe, i'm color bling too.

But if light colors the problem get some color enhancing food(such as the one's dinger454 mentioned), and some glo lamps. Grillers oscars have some incredibley deep reds...check out his in the photography section.
