My Oscar is eatin my silver shark. Will it harm the oscar? The shark is dead for what i can see. Its got its head and part of the body in its mouth? Also why did it do it?

Re:Jesus Christ 2 years, 3 months ago #78941

When I feed my oscar feeders sometimes he has part of its body and head sticking out in its mouth for a while. If he's pretty much all in don't worry about it. The O will swallow it fully in time. They do that sometimes.

1. Does the Oscar look like it's struggling?

2. Is the shark too big to completely ingest fully?

"Also why did it he do it?"

Why NOT?
Oscar's are predatory fish.
If he can fit it in his mouth there's a good chance he will try at some point. Even fish who are supposedly able to 'get along' with O's...if they are significantly smaller...well, you can't ever really predict what he'll decide to do.

Just REMEMBER:

One fish goes one way, the other fish goes the other way, and this guy's sayin', "Whadda ya want from me?'

If its down to the tail and he's making progress I would suspect he'll get it down fine....it'll just take a bit. As long as he's swimming around normally and breathing fine I wouldn't worry just yet. Give him tonight to finish his snack.

i have nothing to say but to agree with johnnyphoenix.... your o will be fine with
his/her expensive meal. how much was that silver shark?

By tomorrow you'll either find the shark tail completely consumed or the end of it at the bottom of the tank or floating around somewhere I would expect. The real problems (from what I've heard) are when they try and consume catfish/plecs...the spines can lodge themselves in the jaw/mouth/throat and really make a mess for the owner trying to remove them. They eat them head first to ease the fins down the throat but if they're too big and have to be removed manually by the owner the spines can catch and possibly both fish can die. I've even heard of owner's having to snip the spines off to remove it.

in most cases, if there is outside force interfering with the fish matter,
two fish usually dies.... but if you leave them alone, the predator usually
survive and get bigger...
