My O Cheese has been sulking around his new tank for a few days. Last night he was hanging around/sulking between the heater and a fake plant and burnt his side and fin. He looks to be ok but he lost a BIG chunk of skin and scales. How long will this take to heal? I have a picture of the wound how do I attach it?

OUCH! I know that they heal pretty quick. One of my O's took a bite out of the side of my other O and within days it was healing. Good luck!

Ya I am sure it hurts but it is kind of funny. I never said that Cheese was a very smart fish.

Glad to hear all is ok (ish)

Best to get a heater guard asap, i have bought them for all my tanks as one of the first places they seem to hide when they get a bit sulky or for a warm is by your heater, surprised no fish tank makers havn't made some kind of discreet box to hide heaters yet.

I did not know that the heaters got that HOT. I guess I should look into getting some of those guards for my tanks.

yep you would struggle to pick up a heater after it's been on a while, a lot of heaters are now sold with guards but you can pick them up pretty cheap on ebay etc

Are the guards universal or do you need to get brand a brand specific one?

just remember what brand and size heater you got and ask at the lfs.
They'll have them for sure.
It will also protect the heater from breaking, for your fish may try that too eventually.
I had to hide my thermometer for the fish kept pulling it off the glass.

they heal really, really fast (assuming pristine water). I find that my O's (one in particular) is very clumsy and often ending up with scrapes. One time it got stuck in the bogwood and got pretty scraped up - exposing the flesh. The wounds were healed in just a few days and in less than a week, they were not noticeable.

I followed the advice on this forum and used some Stress Coat as well - I had some on hand and figured it couldn't hurt.
