I would maybe make sure he is having signs of internal parasites rather than treating "just in case"...some meds can be pretty harsh and if you don't have to treat I would not do it.

What makes you think its an internal parasite?

someone else posted the same symptoms as my O's and they said that after the metronidazole, the jerking and twitching stopped. much of his symptoms all came about after giving him some stinkin feeder fish. never again.

Ok...what are your water parameters at right now? If I'm wrong correct me but I think I read you were having some high ammonia problems before...again if i'm getting you confused with another post I apologize.

you are correct. i am following the "cycling" directions as listed on this website and since the ammonia keeps rising to .50, I have to do 25% water changes like twice a day. as soon as i do the changes, my O stops the seizure like movements. below is a video clip for you to see his actions.

I'm thinking since you say he stops the motions after a water change and the ammonia was very high for a little bit he could jsut be experiencing damage from high ammonia levels. I would jsut be careful with medicating too much as some medications can harm your biological filtration and can start your cycle over...I'm not sure which ones though so you'll have to wait until someone with more knowledge in that area chimes in.

I would get your water perfect first and see how he acts maybe...just my opinion. When you say he gets better after a water change and the ammonia drops it kinda sounds like the ammonia is what is causing it...

yeah, i guess you are right. can i ask you a few more questions?

he's having trouble seeing and still bumps into things, can't tell where the food is. he did grab a cricket or two today but he is not smashing them up, after about a minute they crawl right out. he is not seeing that well and he seems to love it when i turn off the lights. could a diseased feeder fish cause stuff like this too?

you have to read the label first prior to medication. some med makes the
fish refuses foods for a while.... fishes that had been refusing foods for
a while could aggravate the situation when treated. anyway, if that is your
gamble to save your fish...its up to you.... since it is taking some food for
now but having difficulty swallowing the food... i would wait for a little while
before going to apply another medication....

okay. i will wait. i just got a 125 gal which they will be going into from their 75. one more question? do O's normally keep food like crickets in their mouth like what hamsters do, store it there just in case or is that a sign of him having trouble swallowing as I assumed?

I'm not sure...I suppose it is a possibility. I'm far from being an expert on the disease aspect of fish though so I would maybe see if anyone with more knowledge in that area can answer that for you.

Took another look at the video and his poo looked a little weird...wasn't sure if it was just the video though? Does his poop look different than usual or is it normal?

I recently lost an O to what I believe was internal parasites...started to have really long white, stringy poop and stopped eating completely...the fact that your O is trying to eat is a good sign though. Just curious about the poop from your O.
