Im in process of teaching them to ring bell for food lol way they eat bell will never stop lol. I found out u can train oscars to ring bell of food. im using cricket and slowly i ring the bell couple times that slighty floats on water but tied to my center bar that separates my two lids. after i ring couple time he come towards me i drop cricket in so far its a process but i think it may work lol

I have mine trained to the point that when I clap a couple of times my Oscar knows it's time to eat. It will go into a little frenzy and start doing laps broken up by rushing at the spot where I always drop food. Almost indicative of how a dog acts at dinner time.

I have always clapped my hands and whistled a few times before feeding. Pretty much been three years in the process.

You can teach them to pull a small rope to get a pellet.
We had a vid of that lately.

Hi Matty - Anything can be trained mate - I have seen gold fish that have been trained.

I doubt it is a case of adding value to its cognitive ability though - must be more a case of just pounding it into it's short term memory through repetition and I would dare say that if you didn't keep it up and dropped off the behavior for a week or so the fish would quickly forget the whole song and dance.
