thanks paul.,,,he(she) is over 11 inches for sure, and about approx 2 inches thick!.just added another pic with his "toy"....he had a nasty habit of beating the crap out of the filter suction and heater, so my wife suggested adding a floating toy to the tank,,,he plays with that--head butts the thing all over the tank, and takes out his frustrations!!

if you look in the pic with his "toy" you will see glass on the floor!..i try to keep a portion open for him,,he likes to "rub his belly" and sides on the smooth glass!..is that related somhow to egg laying instincts?...as soon as i clear it for him, he is on it in seconds--pretty funny realy!!

ha ha ha... my grand children always drop their toys inside my tank too
and yes, fishes love to push and play with those toys....

as to moving substrate, yes, oscar love doing that. if your o is about
18 months or more, then it is matured enough and can spawn any time.
i suggest you put some slab or slate for oscar to clean. if it lays eggs,
then you have a female but without a male mate, eggs will not hatch.

Hi Larry -

How big is he/she?

I have one tiger which has lived in a 55gal all its life (albeit by itself) however it may have caused her to be a slow grower - Im heading towards three years now and only now getting to 10 inches.

IMO - the pits, etc just looks like he/she has been "warring" a little to much - there seems to be no open wounds/infections/etc.

Disregard my last asking for size - for some reason no responses loaded on my first look, only your original post.

Thats interesting - my slow grower was a toss up between the tank size and genetics - seeing as though your's has managed to grow that fast I think I can start to lean towards the later.

And yeah, great colors - nice work

Yes I love the RED .....in him/her whatever lol.
Vibrant is the word. I read and saw in a video that if u feed ur fish with shrimp and pink reddish crustaceans that u bring out the red more in an oscar. Same thing it is with flamingo's that feed on crill and pink reddish food. It dye's their feathers etc. And brings the red out more in an oscar.
Has anybody heard of this too?

In my understanding those igredients are mixed into the Hikari gold pellets.
Just for the same reason.
But I'll check out if my new tiger will become more vibrant
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

hi again, that IS the food that Oscar eats....Hikari Gold large floating pellet food!..i also have the ciclid staple, but he prefers by far the gold!...i also, throw in some "pond sticks" for the salvini, but oscar spits them out!...the salvini eats the GOLD also!.....

i might add the oscar is about 19 months old now, maybe some got the idea from my title tha it is one year old!...its been about a year since he is in the bigger tank, when i wrote and asked questions last year!..he belonged to my nephrew in a small tank, and since i had an osdar before i offered to take him off his hands..he was tired of cleaning the tank too! ....

in the pics, you can just see the other tank mate the plet hanging on the glass by the filter..he is about 8 inhes long and really keeps the glass clean!...larry
