I guess I am just curious as to what type my oscars are. I have had 1 Albino Tiger Oscar for a couple of weeks now and just recently rescued a Lutino Tiger oscar from my very neglectful cousin. no naming names here but she hasn't a clue to how to take care of an oscar at all. Let alone any other fish. I asked her how often she feeds him and checks the water does water changes what her water params were all that good stuff... And she just looked at me, said straight to my face. "I don't do any of that, I just feed him." as you can probably tell I was furious. She has had her O for about a month now and he has been stuck in a 20 gal. yep you heard me a 20gal tank! She said her fish store told her the oscar was a Lutino Tiger oscar when she bought him. I had asked her if she plans on keeping him and she just gave him to me telling me "I don't want him any more." So back to my question.. I guess I am just curious as to if he is a Lutino or not. My fish store where I got mine said mine was an Albino Tiger oscar. To me they both look the same, but before I joined this forum I didn't even know there was a Lution type of Oscar. SO ya learn somthing new all the time.

Here are some pics. tried my hardest to get good ones

None of your fish are albino, they are all lutino. Albino creatures don't have any color pigmentation at all. So a true albino Oscar will be pure white with red eyes. Oscar's that are primarily white are normally called albino, but really they should be called lutino.

Thats good to know. Why would a fish store call them Albino if they are indeed not albino. On another note what do you think of them

I think the Oscars that are primarily white have been branded as albino because people are familiar with that word and know what an albino creature is. Most people wouldn't have a clue what Lutino means, they probably think it's some kind of Latin dance

ok, I'll admit, before educating myself on this site, I thought lutino was some strain of Oscar from Mexico instead of south america

See my name? LOL, yea I would love to find a true Albino, but they say its close to impossible and if you could find one it would cost you a small fortune. Fish stores should not call them Albino's it misleads!

Very beautiful Oscars Paul, grey and white. I don't think I've ever seen an oscar that color before. Like I said very beautiful!
