TOPIC: please help

please help 2 years, 2 months ago #85348

I recently was given two oscar fish in a 29 gallon tank. I know, I know the tank is too small. The oscars are still little and are getting along well for right now. I am in the process of getting a larger tank but it may take while. How long with these little guys be ok for? I would like any information I could get on raising these guys. Feeding, water changes ect. I don't have the option of giving them back and I have kinda grown attached anyways. Please Help I don't want them to get sick and die because of my inexperience. Thank you in advance for the help

The best advice I can give you is to read the site... Cover to cover.... Ask any questions you have... someone is always here to answer questions.

Now a couple things you will need ASAP...
1. American Pharmaceuticals Liquid Water Test Kit!
2. Loads of filteration
3. Cichlid pellets (sized accourding to your O's
4. A bigger tank ASAP.

Please ask for any help! We are here to help!

I am going to go out and get a testing kit today. I went to the pet store yesterday and they were not very helpful. How long do I have until they need a new tank? 1 week? 1 month? 6 months? I have a friend who is going to sell me a 55 gallon for 75$ but I would like to save up to get a larger one if possible

Most pet stores don't have a clue anyway... DON'T Trust them!

How big are the O's now?

If they are only a little over an inch, they will be ok for a month or 2... But I would upgrade as soon as you can! The longer you leave them in a small tank the more risk you run of MAJOR problems!

Yes Hun.. 55 is still too small.. Look for 100+ gallons... If you are in the US, Craigslist is a GREAT place to find a cheap used tank!

Keep in mind that you will need a big filter to go along with that big tank. If you buy a 100 gallon tank, then you will need a filter rated for at least a 200 gallon tank!
