TOPIC: New oscar owner

New oscar owner 1 year, 10 months ago #86250

Bought my first oscar today a tiger oscar around 2 inchs. Its in a 50gallon tank with a couple plants to hide behind. He explored his tank for about an hour and now he's acting really sluggish. I've heard oscars do act like this when changing tanks etc. Question is when should I start to get worried if his behaviour doesn't change?

Thanks, Tania

I've also checked his water and all seems good

My two Oscars set on the bottom of the tank and wouldnt eat or anything for about a week before they come around, I was worried as hell that I had bought sick fish but they came out of it and are doing great.

I would say, that if your tank is fully cycled and all your water tests are good, it is just a normal reation to relocating. How long has the tank been running?

Could you please post your water readings for Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Thanks

first of all, welcome to the site.
2nd, have you cycled your tank first prior to buying your o?

This is something that nearly all baby oscars do when put in a new tank. It usually takes a few days before they settle in but it can take around a week, sometimes even longer

Welcome to OFL.
Give him some more time and go sit in front to your tank.
Let the fish get used to your presence by spending time with him so he get comfortable with you.
That is, if the answers to Pauls and Nicki's questions are in check...
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
