tank decors are more on owners preference. fish/fishes needs good swimming space,
water quality, and good foods. although i haven't ask yet what my fishes need?

I think it's nice to give the fishes a place to 'hide' or a quiet place to rest - whether it's fake plants, wood or other decor is up to you. I find my fish like to rest behind the fake plants - like a little quiet place for them. Don't be worried if they find a new way to decorate - I was surprised the other day to find my oscars had moved a fake plant - that was very securely anchored under a large rock - they thought it looked nicer in the middle of the tank. Guess they've been watching too many home decorating shows on TV

X2, make sure the plants are securely anchored!

btw all my plants are hanging fake ones. I got mine at a garden centre instead of my LFS and payed only a fraction of what i would have payed at the LFS.
Just make sure they're not dyed and they will be safe to use in your tank.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

Fake plants are ok but be warned your oscar will move them around to where he wants them!!!! I used to have fake plants but i got fed up coming home to them floating in the tank. The only ones i have now are the hanging ones like Noddy's to cover the heater and filter pipes

LOL!

I found "silk" or fabric fake plants - they look a bit more natural than the plastic ones in my opinion.....

Noddy - i'm glad to find another who has the silky fake plants in their tank! I recently joined a local aquarium club; and these guys are WAY into heavily planted tanks with CO2 systems and such (granted they are beautiful tanks) - I'm sure they would scream in HORROR at my fake plants. LOL - I'll just scream back at their boring little fish......the favorite fish seem to be neons and rummy-nose tetras. Ha - next meeting if they mock me with my fake plants, I'll tell them "my fish are better than your fish"

As we all know Paul "size does matter"

KJAK, i love oscars but some people like different types of fish. And a community tank can look real good
