I’ve named my Oscar Tiger because he is very stubborn, moody, dangerous and voracious! But I love him so much; he is a part of the family now! I think he is not one of those gentle, playful oscars! Yesterday I gave him 3 big female guppies and he ate them up almost instantly! He likes to ambush his prey from below, I love watching him hunting this way! I tried for days to feed him pellets but he didn’t touch a single one! So I’m feeding him small shrimps, prawns, bloodworms, tubifex and small fish. I think his first choice is small fish, and then the shrimp and bloodworm, but he hates vegetables! Sometimes he jumps out of the water when I approach the tank with food and open the aquarium cover.
Small shrimps have tough skin, is it going to cause any trouble for Tiger?
Any suggestions on what else I can feed him? I think Tiger is getting heavier every single day! He is almost 4” now, but he was almost 3.5” when I bought him 3 weeks ago!

whole uncooked shrimps are great food for Oscars. It always amazes me when people peel them, you'll probably find the most nutritious part for the Oscar is the outer shell.

Where do you get your feeder fish from?I won't be the only person that will tell you that feed the fish purchased on fish stores can on occasions contain diseases and parasites so it is not advisable to feed this to Oscar. There's nothing wrong with feeding live fish to your Oscar, it is just best to breed them yourself so you know the history of where they have come from and how they have been bred.

An oscar like ofl said, will make short work of a whole shrimp.Oscars have not so much teeth as grinding stones at the back of the throat. If he was taking pellets you would be able to hear him crunch them if you listen carefully,it will be the same with shrimp.Feeding fish from you're local fish store,is not good practice, unless you can quarentine for 3 weeks, better still id leave it 3 month because sometimes it can take that long for some diseases to show,im sure others will agree. You can buy small lance fish which will be readily available and cheaper on you're wallet, and will be taken just as greedily.also crickets, worms, mealworm, any kind of insects really.60% of a wild o's diet is insects.
