Well...I had 2 young Oscars in a 55 for a few months, albino is about 6-7", and black one is about 5-6". This morning, before they got their normal feeding, I noticed my albino following the smaller black one around in a bullying manner. I watched for a couple of miutes and then the albino just snapped at the black one, luckily missing. I knew that the day would come that i had to return one of them or upgrade, this morning was that day. I can't afford an upgrade at the moment, so i took my albino Oscar back to the LFS today .

My black Oscar is Ok though...only one lil spot where the albino got him. I added some stress coat and he is seeming just fine.

The already missed albino

I'll get a new pic of my black tiger oscar on here tonight when I get back home.

Let this be a lesson to anyone trying to keep Oscars in too small of a space...it has definately been a lesson to me.

Unfortunately most people learn the hard way. Anyway, you are in a good position to advise other people.

Good to see you have a LFS that takes back fish.
I do as well and i know the fish will be sold only to folks with large enough tanks.
My LFS allways has some adult O's to show how big they really get!
Maybe in time you get your upgrade and a new O.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

It's like reading my own story.
When I'm good, I'm very good.. When I'm bad, I'm f*ckin' better.

Yeah my lfs takes fish back...it's awesome. My O that I kept is seeming depressed. He doesn't have the spunk that he had when the two of them were together...I'm sure he'll get his confidence back and get used to being alone, I feel bad for him though, the two of them got along great up till yesterday.

when things drastically change in a tank (i.e removing a fish) oscars can sulk for a while...i wouldnt worry he'll be glad of the extra territory soon and be as active as ever

Yeah. My oscar took a while till he got used of being alone now. He's ok now but he still tilts at the top when all the lights are off though.. Seems like my O is afraid of the dark now. Probably because that's when he gets his ass kicked. I now let him have a little light when I go to sleep.

I just left town to go canoe for the weekend...got a bud feeding the tanks while I'm gone, so all is good. I'm planning on getting a few feeders to cheer him up when so get back. I am also planning on getting a 75 or a 90 gallon upgrade in the next few months for him.

I would like to get 5-6 tiger barbs as dither fish for the tank. If I bought the biggest barbs I can find they should be ok with the O...right?
