Hey, i just purchased my first Oscar yesterday. his name is Big Earl and hes is fairly shy , hes just a coupple of inches long about 3-4 and whenever i come into my room (before he sees me) hes swimming around fine . but then when he sees me he goes to the bottom of the tank and stands still or he goes under his rock as if i were abusing him daily (sometimes its a tilt). but at first i thought he was sick and i checked the water and everything reads nearly perfect. any advice on how to make him more fond of me.. Also he is not yet eating ive had him for almost 2 days now?
PS- I always do my homework after school right next to him. to try to bond with him.

Yes rightly said.. oscars have a dog like nature.. they can identify their owners.. and they are a timely eater.. and yes they are SUPER picky about the food.. they are messy eaters too..

if you changed or intent to change its food from what it was fed at the shop.. try not feeding it for 4 - 7 days.. or just put very very little food..

before all of this.. pls post your tank readings.. NH4 NO3 NO2 PH

btw.. congtrazzz on the O.. and welcome to our community

i think you should give him sometime to get used to the new environment. once he is familier with the new environment and the owner he will be right at the front of the tank whenever you pass by.
just feed him with quality food and keep the water parameters good

If your waterquality is fine, you should spent time in front of your tank.
Just sit down and talk to your fish and interact with your oscar.
IMO the fish will get used to you that way and will recognize you in no time.
I have a new tiger that was very shy and spooked easily, but after a month he even started to eat pellets from my hand yesterday.
You won't be the only one talking to your fish.

lol, never underestimate speaking to your fish.
I am convinced it helps your O recognize you.
Handfeeding can be a good help to make less spooked.
Training them with food, like with your finger dipped in bloodworms also really helps.
I'm quite expierienced here and i love to amaze my guest with the handfeedingshow!

This is perfectly normal, its can take up to a week or so for them to get used to their new home
I can't get no sleep
