TOPIC: Tired of trying everything for my OSCAR to eat

Tired of trying everything for my OSCAR to eat 2 years, 1 month ago #89341

He is reluctant to eat, i have tried everything from HIKARI GOLD to HIKARI GOLD PLUS and carnivore and algae wafers to no avail he is moving fine and i dont see any signs of disease... im worried on what to do?? Should I go buy feeders and shoot him up to see if it works??

I live in Puerto Rico and I havent found a place to get worms... i know a place where they have in a fridge bloodworms daphnia and some other cold stuff

please some help appreciated.

hey, go to a baitshop or "reptilian" store.
They will have mealworms, other worms, crickets...
Are any of those shops around?
Earthworms can be collected by yourself and are pretty easy to catch.
Mealworms can be ordered online too.

First of all. How big is ur Oscar, what size of tank is he in and can you post ur water tests? Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates ph etc etc.
These are the first questions you will be asked. Also. Has he been moved or have you just bought him even?

i would suggest to check water quality first. fish in distress won't touch
anything until it died.

please check and post water parameters: ammonia? nitrite? nitrate?
pH? temperature?

tank size? filtration? and size of fish/es?

can you obtain frozen fish...like silversides?
Also, when has he last eaten? Whenever my Oscar goes 'off' his staple diet I wait about 2 days and then he's more than ready to eat.

well i'm dealing with this situation at the moment. i thought it was breeding as they kept digging for weeks but nothing happened. they still dont eat like they used to, i've tried everything aswell. i've just come to the conclusion that since they have now grown they do not feed like they used to, i've cut down from 3 times a day to 2 & this seems to have worked to some extent.

anyway please post your water reading as that will give a indication your oscars are under stress..

nah, that is not crazy at all. fishes do take some fruits in the wild
whenever it falls in the water.... but still, i insist, check the water
to eliminate bad water condition as the culprit.

Yeah I'd agree w/ checking water parameters but also have you tried Hikari Food Sticks www.bigalsonline.com/StoreCatalog/ctl368...;hits=12&offset=
Or maybe that's the carnivore food you were referring to. My oscar wouldn't eat any of the other pellets I tried hir on but she devours these like there's no tomorrow. They are designed to soften quickly in the water and advertize for getting carnivorous fish off live food.
