i was just wondering, i have a bag of cockel shells, if i wash them well can i use them in my filter, or will it raise my ph to much, i thought it might be good for my biological filter, , this would be for red oscars, x

it would have a influence on your PH but I couldn't tell you how much cos i don't know anyone to try it. I would stick to other items that don't adjust anything just to be safe. if you decide to try it, i would start with a very small amount just in case. also removing all the salt may be an issue for you.

i thought that might happen, i think i wil stick it on ebay and sell it, and stick to my bio media instead, thanx

Yeah I wouldn't use them in an oscar tank. Oscars come from low pH soft water, shells would create harder higher pH and while oscars can tolerate higher pH no fish does well with varying parameters.

I'd actually debated putting peat in my filter to soften my water.
