Welcome to the community. I'm not sure if the fish could survive for eight months without food. A fish of 10 years old is certainly an old timer so it wouldn't be unusual for fish to suddenly start behaving strangely. The fact that this fish is 10 years old indicates that it has been looked after properly. Other than its not feeding, how is it behaving? Have you noticed any laboured breathing at all? We always get people to test their water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH, just to rule our poor water conditions.

What sort of foods have you been giving it? To be quite honest I don't know if there is a lot that we can suggest that will really help your situation. It actually is very common for O's to suddenly go off food, whether they are old or not, the fact that you're at it is very old would lead me to believe age has a lot to do with it.
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE & NICE WELCOME! WE HAVE FED HER THE SAME THING FOR 10 YEARS WHICH IS POND PELLETS THAT YOU CAN BUY AT PET STORES. AND MY HUSBAND ALWAYS CHANGES & CHECKS HER WATER BUT IM NOT SURE WHAT THE PH LEVELS ARE, HE DOES. SHE HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF VERY WELL, SHE IS LIKE PART OF OUR FAMILY & IT SADDENS ME THAT WE MAY LOOSE HER SOON. WE WENT ON VACATION IN SEPTEMBER & SHE HAS NOT ATE SINCE WE RETURNED. I WAS READING THE HUMANE WAY TO EUTHINIZE (SPELLING?) HER BUT I DONT THINK WE CAN DO THAT. I CRIED JUST READING THE INFORMATION. THANKS AGAIN!

IM SORRY, I LEFT THINGS OUT.....SHE USUALLY STAYS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK, SOMETIMES SHE GOES TO THE TOP BUT SHE DOES NOT SWIM AROUND LIKE SHE USED TO. SHE USED TO WOULD "GET EXCITED" WHEN SHE WOULD SEE US WALK TOWARDS HER BUT NOT ANYMORE. SHE WILL LOOK AT US IF WE PUT OUR FACE RIGHT UP TO HER TANK. I HAVENT NOTICED ANY DIFFERENCE IN HER BREATHING THOUGH. AND SHE DOESNT LOOK ANY DIFFERENT IN APPEARANCE. JUST NOT ACTIVE AT ALL. ITS LIKE SHE JUST FLOATS ON THE BOTTOM & RARELY MOVES ABOUT.

10 years is already an accomplishment... did you happen to have any picture of
your fish? i know some fish could hibernate for long period of time without food.
and some fish could survived without food when they are full of fats in the body.
perhaps your fish have one of those character.

sometimes, accidental spraying inside the room could affect their daily life.
any chance it may had happen?

im not fish expert but if she wont eat pellets then try feeder fish...i know alot of people are against it but all predator fish are the same and cant resist live fish...if she doesnt eat those then you know somethings up in my opinion

any chance you can turn the cap lock off to make reading easier please, ) the water readings my tell us a little more, did you get someone to feed your oscar while you were any? when the fish swims to the sureface can it maintain itself at that level or does it sink fast and have to swim to stay off the bottom? you could try earthworms as food and lastly whats the tank temp?

You have to upload to photobucket.
When it is done (saved and shared) look at the bottom of the photo u want to insert. U will see an IMG code right click on this and copy tehn open the thread u want to add it too and paste it here.
Job done... I think...

Oh thank you so much, I will try to do that!!

Today will be the third day that my oscar has been laying on the bottom of the tank on her side, I dont think her breathing is right either & Im so afraid she is suffering. Do you think its time to humanely euthanize her with the clove oil? I have this little bit of hope in the back of my mind that she will get better but I think I just need the re assurance that I would be doing the right thing! Thank you, Tammy

We really need those water readings for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH... And a Pic would also be VERY helpful!
