i brought my two red tiger oscars home last friday, they are about 6cm long and grey, they swim very close together, and never leave each others side, its like looking in a mirror, copy each other all the time, do you think i might have a male and female, or is it to early to tell,ive added a vidoe to my profile havent worked out how to get it with my message yet, lol xxxx

From what I understand it's impossible to determine their gender until they are sexually mature... which is in one to two years? Or at least that's what I remember reading.

FYI, went to go look up telling the gender of Oscars again, even when they're sexually mature, it's pretty hard to tell because male Oscars will only um... take out their member(if that's the proper term for it) only when mating. yes.. you cant tell at this stage.. cause the most friendly oscars will start fighting once they get to 4 to 6 inches.. as they become territorial then.. so you really need to wait to find out if its a couple..

mine have done that since they were babies too (they're now about 8 months old) - and are still inseparable; they have taken to some occasional "kissing", tail shaking, and color-flaring (which I'm hoping is mating ritual practice and not aggression)

all we can do is wait patiently and hope for the best!

Mine do the synchronized swimming too and stay very close.
The smaller oscar has only been in the tank for 2 months, but they act like a couple.
But mine are 11 and about 8 inch.

so there is hope then, lol xxxx
