I have had my Red Oscar for about 2 weeks. He (assuming it is a He) is growing very fast and seems to be very healthy so far. He is about 3.5 inches now. He lives in his own 60 gallon. There is a small 2" Firemouth and a 3" Emerald Cory (not sure if these will remain in this tank long term).

Compliments on your tank, again.
your Oscar will grow so fast, he'll be easier to photograph!
I notice you didn't fill off the tank completely.
Any reason for that?
If you fill her up a bit more you will loose less light, for all light will go into the tank, instead of the room.

Thanks for the kind comments Noddy and Jamie.

I had the tank with out (fake)plants initially so the Oscar would have tons of room, until yesterday. I thought I would go with just a couple of rock decor; but the wife made a comment that the tank looked bare compared to the 30 gallon I recently set up;... so I caved and added plants and changed the decor around a bit. Maybe when the Oscar gets big I will tone down the amount of decor.

As far as filling up the tank all the way to the top. That is a good point, I usually try to, but did water change yesterday and must have left a little empty or evaporated. That would help the pic though; thanks.

ha ha! lol!
That's funny. Yeah, it won't be long and my Oscar will arrange things exactly like he wants it. Once I had an Oscar that didn't like the light on the heater going on, so he would bite at it when the light came on. And that Oscar was about 9 inches at the time, so I was worried he would break the heater. I think I ended up kind of hiding the heater behind some rocks to avoid the disaster. But I am sure you could imagine.

Yes, i could.
My thermometer is out of the tank, it kept getting harrassed and thrown around.
Red seems to trigger oscars, but that just my opinion.

I was told by a member that the Rena heaters have glass that are very strong are unbreakable by the fish. Might want to look into this....

Thanks Angmat.

The water isn't cloudy, but I do have a film (haze from salt deposits or algae?) on the glass that I should have spent more time getting it off with vinegar or something when I moved the tank from downstairs to upstairs. I thought a razerblade would get it done after the water was in it. But it didn't do as much as I had hoped.

I have read that there are products out there that work. I have also read vinegar will work. I haven't really had to do this before, but I may need to drain tank and give it a try, if the razor doesn't work long term.

My lighting and camera didn't help either in the photo's(Droid Phone). All in all, It's a bit of a work in progress.

***Red Oscar update***
It is truly amazing how fast these Oscars grow. When this thread started not to long ago my Red Oscar was about 2"-2.5"... now he is almost (if not) 5". The Red Oscar is doing very well and is now the leader of my 140 gallon tank. Here is an updated pic taken today and a very short video.
