I am new to oscar ownership.
I have a pair of oscars, they are normally dark with red stripes, but when ever i go near the tank they turn to a really light. is this normal?

i don't think you've got anything to worry about. yes oscars do change colour a little for various reasons. we can only guess at some of the reasons but to give you an idea, fighting,sick,mating,frightened,poor water are just a few. I am sure there are many more reasons they could change colour, but the main thing to watch is if its not acting as normal and very pale at the same time. this would be a good time to test your water. i take it you have tested your water and all is ok?

They are probably frightened, but they will get used to you soon
