hi im sooraj,
i just bought an albino Oscar a day back...my convict cichlid just bit its pelvic fin off... the pair of fins are slit into half...i dono wat to do....i just changed the water today morning so as to prevent from any infection...will the pelvic fins grow back???this is my first 'O' n i really love it....pls help....

Oscars can regenerate their fins perfectly, as long as the base of the finspines is still there.
My O had his fins bitten by another aggressive fish.
It looked like this:

But with a healthy diet and pristine waterconditions the finspine grew back within a month.
The filaments between the spines grew back within a week!
2 months later there was no scar whatsoever.
Mind you, the aggressor was rehomed, for i didnt want the risk of this happening again. :angry:

thank u...even i dint want this to happen again so the aggressor was rehomed...but the problem is one of its pelvic fin is almost completely bitten off....do u still think that there are chances of it growing back...

Like i said, if the base of the finspines is still in tact, the fin will regenerate.
On my o the spine piece that was left was only 2MM long, but still grew back.
If there is no remains of the base left , the fin may not grow back.
Can you post a picture for us, that will give us the opportunity for a better diagnose.

btw a damaged fin will not harm your oscar, even if if won't grow back ,he'll do just fine.
Just keep your water the best as possible.

My Local fish store gave me a free Oscar that had no Tail at all a few months ago, i posted a topic here about it.

It took him about 2 months and now he looks like a champ. You can see him in some of my videos in the photograph/videos section
