I have another post up with a discussion about my blueberries being dyed blue and I can't thank everyone enough that told me they were dyed, I've been looking up dyed oscars on line and I came across a couple sites that said lemon oscars are dyed as well, I think they're wrong, and I really hope they're wrong because my other O is a lemon, and I've seen many of them and a few adults. I just wanted to be sure he wasn't dyed as well because if he is and he's going to die I'll be left with nothing! And if anyone can tell me of anymore kinds of O's that are dyed so I can watch out for them I'd appreciate it.

I dont think lemons are dyed but a new breed of oscars. Fish that have a colour because of inter breeding are ok (bit like the different breeds of dogs), its artificial coloured ones that are the problem. The different types of oscars that are bred are

Tiger
Red
Albino (no markings)
Albino red
Albino tiger
Lemon
No tiger markings (these are like tigers but with no red markings)
Wild oscars (have seen pics of these and they can have white marking instead of red markings on a tiger)

If i have missed any out please add to the post
I can't get no sleep

I had heard someone tell me they were dyed and I am sure at one time to get a 'Lemon-Oscars' you had to dye them but from what I have red they are a mix of a red-oscar and something else and if you look closely their head usually is more white then yellow.

Funny, did you know there's an article on this site about dyed oscars? Oscars are dyed blue and occasionally red, but I've never heard of yellow. They may have done it previously, but i believe lemons are select breed fish.

Thanks everyone, I didn't think that my lemon was dyed, but I just wanted to make sure since I was dumb enough to buy the blueberries with out even thinking! lol I think I know what ones to stay away from now. It all makes me really mad, the two little fish seem to be doing se well, but I know I have to get rid of them or I'll be really upset. On one of the web sites I found someone had pictures of blueberries and said they wished they came up with the idea of doing it...some people can be so stupid.

I'm glad to here that I have a baby lemon I bought a
week ago. It was described as a Yellow Oscar but I figured it was just another name for a Lemon. I'm glad I have not seen any of the dyed colored Oscars in my lfs makes me that much more confident the store is trustworthy.
Name - Miah, Age - 36, Gender - Male, Location - Rhode Island

75 gal tank w/ 5 O\'s 2 Albino, 1 Tiger, 1 Red, 1 Lemon. All Juveniles. Building (1) 150 gal tank soon to be ready for spring. Hope to get a breeding pair out of the 5 I have.

Well I'm taking the blueberries back today, I talked to the store manager earlier and he said all they'll do for me is exchange them.... which makes me mad I was planing on taking the money back and going to the only LFS that dosen't sell bad fish. But hey, I'll see if there's anything worth getting in there one last time.
