Hello I got my Oscar 9 months ago, and it has been such a wonderful experience he is the most wonderful addition to our family! However there are 2 things wrong with him and I need some help from people who know what they are talking about and are experienced in dealing with Oscars! I will start with the eating. He won't. We feed him pellets they are called Oscar show and they are strictly for Oscar fish. He has been on this food for a long time now I would say about 4 to 5 months, everything was fine but since Sunday he is refusing to eat, the past two days he would at least eat like two then he would spit them out, but now he won't eat any at all. I am thinking maybe he is just tired of this food and wants his shrimps back and some live food to hunt, bc that is in his natural instinct. I came to that conclusion bc he is pale and when he chases the sucker (algae eater)around he gets very dark and happy but he is hurting my precious sucker. He won't stop biting him every minute..literally. A minute ago he had the suckers whole wing in his mouth and wouldn't let go until I put my arm in the tank. I have to sit and monitor my Oscar so that he wont kill the sucker and he has never been like this. Why is he acting like this and not eating, is it bc he wants live fish and/or different food?
Also my Oscar has an indent on the top of his head, it's not big like the pics of hole in the head and his indent is not that big it kind of looks just like he scraped it hard against something and made an indent but then he has had it for maybe two weeks, it got a little wider but it filled up with white stuff. So it's an indent looking spot that has white stuff in it, and I am scared bc I don't know if it is something serious I need advice could it be the beginning of hole in the head/Hexamita or is it something completely different. Also I just looked at it closer the white stuff seems to be subsiding a bit and it's leaving an odd scabbed over/decolored spot. HELP PLEASE!!!! I am so worried about my Oscarella

hello, welcome to the community, I wish it was under slightly better circumstances.

It is not uncommon for Oscars to stop eating and to be perfectly honest I really don't know why they do it. Have you tried a different pellet altogether?

Firstly, how big is your tank and what sort of filtration have you got? Secondly, have you carried out a water test?you will need to test your water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and PH. I know that we asked this question every time but we really need to know what your water conditions are like.

Okay, we really are going to need to see a photograph. It sounds like your fish has sustained a wound and some fungus has set in. Whether or not it is hole in the head disease is difficult to say just from your description, we would have to see some photographs.

So you will have to get back to us and we will try and help

9 months is good enough to have an established tank but that is also
long enough to accumulate toxin for improperly maintained tank. as requested
by OFL, we need those water information.

Hi Lauram.... Welcome.

I use the API Master test kit, as most of us do here. It does all four tests and I got it from Ebay and it does 100's of tests. Cost me about £25..... Hope this helps.
