hi i brought some cooked peeled fresh prawns for my oscars, my oscars are about 3inch long, the prawns are just over an inch and a half so i gave them quarter of one each they gulped them down and went to different sides of the tank to eat them spitting them out and re chewing took them about 2minutes to eat them, my question is will that be enough for their evening meal as i dont want to over feed plus they get their dried mix food in the morning, thanx xxx

You can feed what they will eat in 2 or 3 minutes, remove any uneaten foods, but if they take a while to eat something, once they are done you can try more. Just keep in mind that if they don't eat it, you need to remove it... Once they are full, then that will be enough for their evening meal!

No... Not at all. Members feed their small Oscars three times a day.

Prawns are very good for them, they also contain the red dye that shrimp and other crustateans have. It is supposed to be very good for their colour and enhances the 'red' in them. The same way that the flamingo's diet makes them go pink/red with the crustaceans they eat..

I loveeee........ shrimp and prawn. Peel me one hun....... lol

Yeah I feed mine more frequent, smaller meals spaced out throughout the day. Feeding mine about 4 pellets and 2 x 1- 2 inch defrosted Atlantic fishies (I don't feed live) daily is more than enough. Sometimes I replace the second fish with defrosted Mysis shrimp instead. My plec gets half an algae tab at bedtime everyday and a small zucchini slice about every 3 days which he never fully finishes, and he likes to clean up the shrimp that sink down to the bottom...

maybe try cutting the prawns into smaller bits so they can swallow them easier?

I've witnessed the same thing - if the chunks are too big, they spit them out, and re-eat them - making a mess. If they're smaller they go down the gullet with ease.
