you should feed mostly pellets. They have very good nutritional value. Pesonally i use cichlid bio gold made by hikari but there are several good brands on the market. Fresh seafoods such as shrimp or fish make for good treats but the pellets should be the staple. How big is your fish?
I have no idea why the water bill is so high

Dave has you covered, but the list of "treats" is long. Oscars will eat, fruits, vegetables, worms, shrimp, bloodworm, krill.... and the list continues...

Hikari Cichlid bio gold has the highest percentage of stabilized digestable vitimans with the least filler. Hikari also makes cichlid gold and cichlid staple which are both okay and a little cheaper but the Bio Gold is the best IMO

hikari makes several brands of cichlid pellets which are all quite good as a staple. other brands that makes excellent food is new life spectrum and omega one.
personally i feed hikari gold, massivore delight(also made by hikari and by far the best that hikari has to offer) and nls pellets as a staple and supplement with crickets, worms, silversides, and shrimp. but as nicki has already pointed out good water is probably the most important step in avoiding hith disease......
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

i feed my fish a combination of Hikari cichlid staple, meal worms, peas, and occasionally a lizard or grasshopper. i always keep a variety of treats for my fish, they eat better than me

pristine water and varied foods is all you need to make your fish
healthy. occasional treat is for the keeper's amazement only.
