Unfortunately i lost one of my 2 years old oscars ( 25 cm ) last night cos it jumped out of the tank from the little place i left open. Is this common? Still can not believe how and why it happenned. Found him/her dead on the floor. I am seriously sad. They were a nice gentle pair never fighting and always happy. The other one looks very unhappy and in a bad mood now ( you know them ) Planning to buy new one? Shall i? or do they live alone as happy as they are in pairs? Thamks

This is something that is certainly not unheard of and if you do a search on the forum you will find numerous cases off Oscars jumping out of their tanks. The advice is clear, use a substantial lid, if you haven't got a substantial lid, weigh at down with something so there is no chance that they can whack it and fallout

There's nothing wrong with trying to introduce another Oscar. Either your existing one will accept it, or it won't. It may take a little bit of time for them to get used to each other but normally you are okay and they will start testing along perfectly okay. Give it a go, you won't know until you try. Remember that she would be advised to put in an Oscar that is too small. However, introducing an immature oscar that is not sexually mature may well reduce aggression and may even increase the chances of them getting along the bit better straight off.
