I would have to say no, unless you have some sort of filter on there which is breaking up the surface tension of the water.
Hopefully the 5 gallon is just temporary??

Another Oscar Fish Forum will try and have you believe that it is possible to keep an Oscar in a 5 gallon tank. I say this kind of information is totally irresponsible as it will only encourage people to try and keep oscars in very small tanks, and then we will have to pick up the pieces when everything goes wrong.

Im putting it in the 5 gal tank for at the most 2 weeks till I can get another 29 gal at which time will treat the 29 and around 3 days later transfer the oscar to the 29
And I found anther air pump so the tank now has a filter and air

Yeah unless you were going to get another tank (at least 55 gallons) eventually a 29 gallon wouldn't do it. If you can though, maybe get a 55 gallon in 2 weeks instead of a 29 gallon and you would be ok. If that's not in your budget or plans then best to bring him back.

Those baby Oscars are damn cute...even moreso when you have a large one.

yea I tried a 55 gal with 2 juveniles, could NEVER get clear water as they produced insane amounts of waste. Hopefully you can get a bigger tank, cause you sure will love him when he gets bigger!

i have a 55 gal tank with a large albino and reguardless of what peope say my plan was when the juvee got big enogh then they can share the 55 together i have raised a few oscars in my life and one lived in a 20 gal tank for 14 years and never had any problems health wise. i agree the bigger the better but the way i see it i would rather raise the baby in my toilet rather then take it back to walmart

Uhm, can you survive in a cramped toilet?
Sure you can, but will you enjoy it and thrive there?
Even for a few weeks?
Just take care your guest do not do any waterchanges for you, if you go for the toilet idea.

by no means will i put any live fish in the toilet i was being sarcastic but then again no way would i take any fish back to walmart unless they are not breathing. and i know the oscars need all the room they can have and my dream is to get a 300 gal tank. but for now the oscars are safe being fed well and happy.im constantly on craigs list looking at the big tanks but none have caught my eye yet some day a 150 to a 300 will come along and then the oscars will be even happier.
